Bloodywood - Dana-Dan
I found Bloodywood after they collaborated with another artist I’ve featured before, Babymetal, on a couple of songs (Bekhauf and Kon! Kon!). Both of those songs are also incredible, and worth a listen! Bloodywood themselves are based in India and they are truly incredible. They make great music that sometimes touches on things like bullying, or in the case of Dana-Dan, sexual assault.
It’s a pretty in your face song that doesn’t hide its message, and it’s refreshing to see men calling on other men to have accountability. It builds rage throughout the song, but then settles on a more targeted approach of channeling the rage into finding solutions to the sexual assault pandemic that has exploded in India.
Also, I’m not sure if it was intentional as the song is in half English and half Hindi, but the hook almost sounds like “we’re not gonna die, we’re not gonna die, die die!” The actual translation is “bring the beatdown!” but I find it fascinating that it still fits so well as an English speaker. It adds to the feeling of resilience and will to fight back against a terrible situation.
And just as an added bonus, Dana-Dan was featured in the movie Monkey Man. I can also recommend giving that a watch as well!
