Alien Weaponry - Kai Tangata

Alien Weaponry is a band based in New Zealand. Kai Tangata, like many of their songs, is in Māori, the language of the indigenous population of New Zealand. The band members themselves have Māori ancestry, and their songs often explore themes based on Māori culture and history.

Kai Tangata is no different; it translates to Eat People, a reference to the Māori tradition of eating the bodies of their slain enemies as an extra insult as they are just like animals that are eaten for sustenance. The song chronicles clashes between two tribes, with one using traditional weaponry and being devastated by another tribe who has been introduced to muskets.

The Māori language suits metal extremely well, and even without understanding the lyrics, it’s easy to understand the feelings it conveys. Kai Tangata is a great headbanger, and if you like metal, you’ll probably enjoy this one a lot!
