IC3PEAK - Death No More

IC3PEAK is a Russian duo that likes to play with different genres. They often experiment with sounds, and in theory feels like it shouldn’t always work, and yet it does. Their music is interesting, and is always evolving and exploring and never grows stale.

The actual content of the songs themselves is just as interesting. IC3PEAK uses their music to speak out against the oppressive Russian government, particularly as it pertains to censorship in arts, such as music. This has made the two artists a target, and they are often harassed by Russian officials and it’s not uncommon to have their concerts cancelled in Russia. This leads to them coming up with creative solutions, like waiting to announce the location of their shows until last minute. They have also been known to travel with attorneys with them, as they have frequent run-ins with authorities in Russia.

Death No More references exactly this issue, and what it is like living in such an oppressive and censored society. The fact the song is almost whispered during much of it also adds to this message, and gives the vibe that the lyrics shouldn’t be heard by certain ears.

I can’t recommend enough checking out more of their songs, even if this one isn’t for you. There is such a huge variety to their sounds between each song, you can really feel just how much creativity they have to go along with their activism.
